Biography

Arshad Warsi is an Indian actor, dancer, choreographer, producer and television personality best known for Hindi-language film work that moves easily between broad comedy, ensemble entertainment and character-driven drama. Born in Bombay, now Mumbai, on 19 April 1968, he entered the film industry from behind the camera and the stage rather than through a conventional acting launch. Before his screen breakthrough, he worked in dance and choreography, served as an assistant director on Mahesh Bhatt's Kaash, and choreographed for Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja.

Warsi made his acting debut in Tere Mere Sapne in 1996, an Amitabh Bachchan Corporation production that gave him early mainstream visibility. In the late 1990s and early 2000s he appeared in films including Betaabi, Hero Hindustani, Hogi Pyaar Ki Jeet, Ghaath and Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II. The period was uneven commercially, but it established him as a performer with comic timing and a relaxed, conversational screen presence.

His career changed decisively with Rajkumar Hirani's Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. in 2003. As Circuit, the fiercely loyal sidekick to Sanjay Dutt's Munna, Warsi turned a supporting role into one of modern Hindi cinema's most recognizable comic characters. He reprised the part in Lage Raho Munna Bhai in 2006 and won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role. The two films made his pairing with Dutt central to the Munna Bhai identity and placed Warsi among Hindi cinema's most reliable comic actors.
