Wyatt Russell

Wyatt Hawn Russell is an American actor and former professional ice hockey goaltender whose screen career has often drawn on an unusual combination of athletic background, Hollywood family history, and offbeat character work. Born in Los Angeles on July 10, 1986, he is the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and the half-brother of actors Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson. Although he appeared on screen as a child, Russell’s first serious public career was in hockey rather than acting.

Russell played as a goaltender through junior and college hockey, including time with the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and later played professionally in Europe. Injuries ended that path around 2010, after which he moved more decisively into film and television. His hockey past has remained part of his public identity, but his acting work has generally avoided trading only on family association; he built a filmography through supporting roles, independent features, genre films, and eventually franchise television and film.

During the 2010s Russell appeared in films such as Love and Honor, We Are What We Are, Cold in July, 22 Jump Street, Everybody Wants Some!!, Goon: Last of the Enforcers, Ingrid Goes West, and Overlord. Those roles placed him across comedy, horror, action, and indie drama, with directors using his easygoing physicality and dry comic timing as well as a capacity for darker or more tightly wound characters. His television profile rose with appearances in Black Mirror and Lodge 49, the latter giving him a leading role as Sean “Dud” Dudley, a drifting ex-surfer drawn into a fraternal lodge and a strange search for meaning.
