Peter Stormare

On television, Stormare became widely recognized as John Abruzzi in Prison Break, a mob boss whose menace was mixed with religious obsession and wounded pride. He also appeared in series such as Longmire, Arrow, The Blacklist, and the Swedish-French series Midnight Sun. In Swedish Dicks, which he co-created and starred in, he leaned into comic self-awareness, playing within the idea of a Swedish outsider navigating Los Angeles. That project captured a key part of his appeal: he can be genuinely intimidating and genuinely funny, sometimes in the same scene.

Stormare has also worked extensively in games and voice performance, appearing in projects including Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Destiny, The Elder Scrolls Online, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and Until Dawn. His voice and screen presence make him useful in heightened worlds, where a performer needs to suggest a full backstory quickly. He has also pursued music, including work with the band Blonde from Fargo and his own record label activities.

Stormare's career is best understood as a character actor's career on a global scale. He is rarely limited by genre and often seems to bring a whole weather system into a supporting role: threat, absurdity, melancholy, and theatrical precision. Whether in a prestige drama, a blockbuster, a cult comedy, or a game performance, he tends to make the edges of the story feel stranger and more alive.
