Stephen King

Film and television adaptations have made King one of the most adapted living authors. Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone, Stand by Me, Misery, The Shawshank Redemption, Dolores Claiborne, The Green Mile, It, Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, and many others have carried his stories to audiences who may never have read the books. His Maine settings, working-class characters, childhood friendships, bullies, addiction narratives, and recurring interest in storytelling itself give his books an identifiable moral and emotional texture. He is both a best-selling entertainer and a writer whose influence can be seen across horror, fantasy, crime, film, television, and the habits of contemporary popular fiction.
