Frank Grillo is an American actor and martial artist whose screen persona has often combined hard-edged physicality with character-actor grit. Born Frank Anthony Grillo in New York City on June 8, 1965, he grew up in New York and studied at New York University before moving from business and advertising work into acting. His long-standing training in combat sports, including boxing, wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, helped shape the authenticity he later brought to crime dramas, action films and mixed-martial-arts stories.
Grillo built his career gradually through television, commercials and supporting film parts. After an early feature appearance in The Mambo Kings, he became familiar to daytime and prime-time audiences through Guiding Light, The Shield, Prison Break, The Kill Point and other series. That steady television work led into a run of tougher film roles in the 2000s and early 2010s, including Pride and Glory, Warrior, The Grey, End of Watch and Zero Dark Thirty. In Warrior, his role as a trainer drew directly on his martial-arts background; in The Grey and End of Watch, he fit into ensemble casts built around pressure, danger and masculine codes of loyalty.
His wider popular breakthrough came in the mid-2010s. Marvel audiences came to know him as Brock Rumlow, later Crossbones, beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and continuing in Captain America: Civil War. At the same time, he became one of the faces of The Purge franchise as Leo Barnes in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year. On television he carried a major dramatic role as Alvey Kulina in Kingdom, a series about a family-run mixed martial arts gym, where his athletic credibility and weary intensity were central to the show's tone.

Grillo has also been a prolific lead and producer in action cinema. Wheelman, Boss Level, Copshop, Beyond Skyline, Wolf Warrior 2, Point Blank, Little Dixie and Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend show the breadth of a career that moves between studio franchises, streaming thrillers, international action pictures and smaller independent projects. His later move into DC screen projects as Rick Flag Sr., beginning with Creature Commandos and continuing in live-action appearances, extended his franchise work beyond Marvel. Across these roles, Grillo has specialized in driven, physically capable men under stress, but his best performances also lean on vulnerability: exhausted fathers, fighters past their prime, professionals whose codes are cracking under pressure.
