Tim Roth

Timothy Simon Roth is an English actor, director and producer associated with intense, volatile and often morally complicated screen characters. Born in Dulwich, London, in 1961, Roth emerged from British film and television in the early 1980s and quickly became part of the generation of British actors sometimes described as the Brit Pack. His early work established a style built on nervous energy, emotional directness and a willingness to make unsympathetic people compelling.

Roth's first major attention came with the television film Made in Britain, where he played a violent young skinhead. The performance was raw and confrontational, and it helped define the reputation he carried into later British films such as The Hit, Meantime and Stephen Frears's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. These roles often used Roth's wiry physicality and restless timing, placing him in stories about class, crime and social pressure.

His American breakthrough was closely tied to Quentin Tarantino. In Reservoir Dogs, Roth played undercover officer Freddy Newandyke, known within the gang as Mr. Orange, giving the heist film much of its emotional tension. He reunited with Tarantino for Pulp Fiction as Pumpkin, one half of the diner-robbing couple whose scene frames the film, and later appeared in Four Rooms and The Hateful Eight. These collaborations made Roth a recognizable figure in 1990s independent and crime cinema.

Roth received an Academy Award nomination for Rob Roy, in which he played the aristocratic villain Archibald Cunningham opposite Liam Neeson. The role showed his ability to turn cruelty and vanity into something theatrically vivid without losing danger. He also worked in a wide range of international and studio films, including Everyone Says I Love You, The Legend of 1900, Planet of the Apes, The Incredible Hulk, Arbitrage, Selma and Hardcore Henry. In The Incredible Hulk and later Marvel appearances, he played Emil Blonsky, also known as Abomination, bringing him into superhero franchise storytelling.
