Jon Hamm

Jonathan Daniel Hamm (born March 10, 1971) is an American actor best known for his portrayal of Don Draper in the television drama Mad Men. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Hamm studied English at the University of Missouri and acted in stage productions before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1990s. Before his career stabilized, he worked outside acting while auditioning and taking small television parts, a path that later became part of the public story of his late breakthrough.

Hamm's first screen work included guest and recurring roles on series such as Providence, The Division, What About Brian, and related network dramas. His breakthrough came in 2007 with Mad Men, Matthew Weiner's period drama about advertising executives in 1960s New York. Hamm's performance as Don Draper depended on a combination of surface control, ambiguity, charm, and private damage, and it became the defining role of the series. The performance earned him wide critical recognition, including a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Awards, and made him one of the most recognizable television actors of the 2000s and 2010s.

After Mad Men became a major cultural success, Hamm expanded into film, comedy, voice acting, and prestige television. He appeared in The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Town, Sucker Punch, Bridesmaids, Friends with Kids, Million Dollar Arm, Baby Driver, Beirut, Bad Times at the El Royale, The Report, Richard Jewell, No Sudden Move, and Top Gun: Maverick.
