What makes Indrans's career especially notable is its second act. Rather than remain fixed as a comic specialist, he gradually moved into character roles that allowed greater emotional weight. The shift did not reject his earlier persona; it deepened it. Roles in films such as Kathavasheshan, Apothecary, Aalorukkam, Veyilmarangal, Home, Udal, Palthu Janwar, and Anweshippin Kandethum showed an actor capable of stillness, vulnerability, menace, and moral ambiguity. He later received a National Film Award special mention for Home, a widely seen Malayalam family drama in which he played Oliver Twist, a father navigating generational distance, technology, and self-worth.

Indrans has remained prolific, with hundreds of credits across decades. His filmography includes mainstream comedies, family dramas, independent films, thrillers, and socially observant Malayalam cinema. In later years he has continued to appear in both leading and supporting parts, including roles in #Home, Udal, Kuttante Shinigami, Jackson Bazaar Youth, Palthu Janwar, and Anweshippin Kandethum. This range gives him unusual standing: he is both a beloved comic veteran and one of the strongest examples of a Malayalam actor reinventing himself through serious character work.

His importance lies partly in craft and partly in persistence. Indrans entered cinema from behind the scenes, became famous through comedy, and then earned major awards by refusing to let that early success define the limits of his acting. His career is a reminder that popular comic performers often possess deep dramatic resources, and that a film industry can rediscover an actor when directors begin to cast against habit.
