Jessica Chastain

Chastain continued to alternate between prestige drama, genre cinema, and commercial projects. She appeared in Mama, Interstellar, A Most Violent Year, Crimson Peak, The Martian, Miss Sloane, Molly's Game, Woman Walks Ahead, It Chapter Two, The Good Nurse, Memory, and Mothers' Instinct. She has often gravitated toward characters with professional authority or inner fracture: lobbyists, scientists, soldiers, nurses, political figures, artists, and women carrying private trauma. Her performance in A Most Violent Year won major critics' attention, while Molly's Game gave her another forceful lead as poker entrepreneur Molly Bloom.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye brought Chastain her Academy Award for Best Actress. As televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, she combined physical transformation, vocal detail, comic brightness, and emotional vulnerability. The performance also won the Screen Actors Guild Award and other major honors. On television, Scenes from a Marriage paired her with Oscar Isaac in an intimate reworking of Ingmar Bergman's marital drama, and George & Tammy cast her as country singer Tammy Wynette opposite Michael Shannon, earning further awards recognition.

Chastain has also remained active on stage. Her Broadway work includes The Heiress and A Doll's House, the latter winning her the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. As a producer, she founded Freckle Films, using the company to support projects with substantial female roles and to exercise more control over development.
