Ice Cube

Ice Cube's film career began with John Singleton's Boyz n the Hood, in which he played Doughboy, a role that translated his musical credibility into a powerful screen presence. He then wrote and starred in Friday, a lower-budget 1995 comedy about one day in a South Central neighborhood. Friday became a cult classic and launched a franchise with Next Friday and Friday After Next. Its importance was different from his rap work but just as durable: it found everyday humor and character in a community often portrayed only through crime drama.

As an actor and producer, Ice Cube moved through action, family comedy and ensemble franchises. His credits include Trespass, The Glass Shield, Anaconda, Three Kings, Barbershop, Are We There Yet?, xXx: State of the Union, 21 Jump Street, 22 Jump Street, Ride Along and Fist Fight. He has often played authority figures, skeptical professionals or tightly wound comic foils, using a guarded intensity that can shift into deadpan humor. He also produced film and television projects through Cube Vision.

N.W.A. was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016, a recognition of the group's cultural impact even though its original run was brief. Ice Cube later co-founded the BIG3 basketball league, extending his public role into sports entertainment. Across music, film and business, his career shows unusual continuity: the teenage writer from South Central became a major architect of rap's mainstream breakthrough, then turned the same voice and perspective into a long-running screen and production career.
