Chris Evans

Christopher Robert Evans is an American actor whose career moved from teen television and genre films to one of the most visible superhero roles of the 2010s. Born in Boston on June 13, 1981, and raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Evans grew up close to theater: his mother worked as an artistic director at Concord Youth Theater, and he performed in youth and school productions before taking summer classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. After graduating from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, he began working steadily in screen roles at the turn of the century.

Evans's earliest widely noted work included the television series Opposite Sex and the teen parody Not Another Teen Movie. He moved into studio features with The Perfect Score and Cellular, then broke through to a larger comic-book audience as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, in Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. In the same period he built a varied filmography that included Sunshine, Street Kings, The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, a run that showed his appeal in action, comedy and ensemble genre projects before his best-known Marvel role arrived.

In 2011 Evans first played Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, in Captain America: The First Avenger. He continued the role through The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The part made him a global star and a central figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while the films became some of the highest-grossing releases in modern popular cinema. Evans's version of Rogers was often defined less by spectacle than by restraint: a principled, old-fashioned soldier tested by contemporary politics, friendship and institutional failure.
