Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is an Australian actor and film producer best known internationally for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Born on 11 August 1983 in Melbourne, Victoria, he grew up in both Melbourne and the Northern Territory, including time in the outback community of Bulman. He attended Heathmont College, and his family later lived on Phillip Island. His brothers Luke Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth also became actors.

Hemsworth began acting on Australian television in the early 2000s, with appearances in series including Guinevere Jones, Neighbours, Marshall Law and The Saddle Club. His breakthrough in Australia came when he joined the long-running soap opera Home and Away as Kim Hyde, a role he played from 2004 to 2007. The role gave him sustained television exposure before he moved into international film work.

After leaving Home and Away, Hemsworth began appearing in Hollywood productions. He played George Kirk in the opening sequence of J. J. Abrams's Star Trek in 2009, a brief but widely noticed role, and also appeared in the thriller A Perfect Getaway. He continued building a film career with Ca$h before being cast as Thor, the Norse-inspired Marvel superhero, in Thor. Released in 2011, the film made Hemsworth a central figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hemsworth reprised Thor in The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. The role established him as one of the most recognizable actors in contemporary blockbuster cinema. Forbes noted in 2019 that his recurring work as Thor had been central to his global fame and earnings, particularly following Avengers: Endgame.
