Brad Pitt (born William Bradley Pitt on 18 December 1963) is an American actor and film producer. One of the most prominent film stars of his generation, he has worked across drama, comedy, crime, war, science fiction, and action films, while also building a major producing career through Plan B Entertainment. His acting awards include an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and as a producer he shared the Academy Award for Best Picture for 12 Years a Slave.
Pitt was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and raised in Springfield, Missouri. He attended Kickapoo High School and later studied journalism with an advertising focus at the University of Missouri. Shortly before completing his degree, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. His early work included small film and television roles in the late 1980s, followed by a breakthrough as the hitchhiker J.D. in Ridley Scott's Thelma & Louise in 1991.
During the early 1990s, Pitt moved quickly from supporting roles to leading-man status. He appeared in A River Runs Through It, Kalifornia, True Romance, Legends of the Fall, and Interview with the Vampire. His performance in Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys brought him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor and helped establish him as more than a matinee-idol figure. The mid- and late-1990s also included Seven, Sleepers, The Devil's Own, Seven Years in Tibet, Meet Joe Black, and Fight Club, the latter of which became one of his most discussed cult films.

In the 2000s, Pitt balanced studio star vehicles with ensemble and auteur-driven projects. He played Rusty Ryan in Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven and its sequels, starred as Achilles in Troy, and appeared opposite Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He worked with Alejandro González Iñárritu on Babel, with Andrew Dominik on The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and with the Coen brothers on Burn After Reading. His title role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Pitt continued to receive critical attention in the 2010s. He starred as Billy Beane in Moneyball, receiving another Academy Award nomination for acting, and appeared in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life. He played supporting or leading roles in Killing Them Softly, World War Z, Fury, The Big Short, Allied, and Ad Astra. In Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he played stuntman Cliff Booth, a performance that won the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for supporting actor.
As a producer, Pitt co-founded Plan B Entertainment in 2001. The company became associated with acclaimed and commercially significant films including The Departed, 12 Years a Slave, Selma, Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, Minari, Women Talking, and other projects. Pitt's producer credits on Moneyball and The Big Short also brought Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, while 12 Years a Slave won the category. Plan B's work gave Pitt a parallel influence in contemporary cinema beyond his screen performances.
His later acting work has included Bullet Train, Babylon, Wolfs, and F1. Across decades, Pitt's public image has combined celebrity visibility with a filmography that includes both mainstream hits and director-led prestige films. His career is notable for the transition from early heartthrob roles to character-driven performances and for the breadth of his producing activity in independent and awards-oriented cinema.
