Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood is an American actor and producer best known for playing Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. He was born Elijah Jordan Wood on 28 January 1981 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a child, he modeled, appeared in local commercials and moved with his family to Los Angeles so he could pursue acting professionally.

Wood made his film debut with a small role in Back to the Future Part II in 1989. During the 1990s he became one of the more visible American child actors, appearing in films including Avalon, Paradise, Radio Flyer, Forever Young, The Adventures of Huck Finn and The Good Son. As a teenager he continued with roles in North, The War, Flipper, Ang Lee's The Ice Storm, Deep Impact and The Faculty.

His international breakthrough came when he was cast as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The trilogy, adapted from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel and directed by Peter Jackson, became a major critical and commercial success, and Wood's performance as the reluctant ring-bearer became his signature screen role. He later reprised the character in related Middle-earth media.

After The Lord of the Rings, Wood deliberately pursued varied projects rather than only large studio fantasy roles. His film work has included Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sin City, Everything Is Illuminated, Bobby, The Oxford Murders, Maniac, Cooties, The Last Witch Hunter, The Trust and I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore. He has also worked extensively in voice acting, including Happy Feet, 9, The Legend of Spyro, Tron: Uprising and Over the Garden Wall.
