Alan Tudyk

Alan Wray Tudyk is an American actor whose career has moved easily between live-action comedy, science fiction, drama, stage work, and animated voice performance. Born in El Paso, Texas, and trained at Lon Morris College and the Juilliard School, Tudyk first became widely recognizable to film audiences through supporting and character parts in late-1990s and early-2000s features. His early screen credits included 28 Days, A Knight's Tale, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, and 3:10 to Yuma, roles that helped establish his reputation for sharply drawn comic timing and unusual physical specificity.

Tudyk's defining television breakthrough came as Hoban "Wash" Washburne in Joss Whedon's space western Firefly. Although the series had a short original broadcast life, it developed a long afterlife through home viewing, conventions, and the continuation film Serenity, where Tudyk reprised the role. The part became a lasting part of his public identity, but he avoided being confined to one genre. He worked in studio features, independent projects, and television guest roles while building a parallel career as one of Hollywood's most frequently used voice and performance-capture actors.

His science-fiction and fantasy work broadened in the 2000s and 2010s. In I, Robot he supplied the voice and motion performance for Sonny, giving the robot a gentle, questioning presence. In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he performed the reprogrammed Imperial security droid K-2SO, combining dry comic delivery with motion capture. He later returned to the Star Wars world in Andor. On television, he played the title alien-in-human-disguise role in Resident Alien, a performance built around deadpan speech, physical awkwardness, and a gradual emotional arc.
