Dwayne Johnson

His film career began while he was still a major wrestling star. Johnson appeared as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns in 2001, then starred in the spin-off The Scorpion King in 2002. He spent much of the 2000s moving between action, comedy, and family films, including The Rundown, Walking Tall, Gridiron Gang, The Game Plan, Get Smart, Race to Witch Mountain, and Tooth Fairy. These roles established him as a bankable screen presence outside wrestling, though his later career would be defined by larger franchise films and producer-driven star vehicles.

Johnson's transition into one of Hollywood's most commercially successful actors accelerated in the 2010s. He joined the Fast & Furious series as Luke Hobbs in Fast Five, a role he reprised in later franchise entries and in the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. He also starred in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. In animation, he voiced Maui in Disney's Moana and returned to the role in Moana 2. In television, Johnson starred in and executive produced the HBO comedy-drama Ballers, which ran from 2015 to 2019. He later co-created and appeared in Young Rock, an autobiographical sitcom drawing on his childhood, football years, wrestling family, and early public career. Through Seven Bucks Productions, the company he co-founded with Dany Garcia, Johnson has also worked as a producer on several film and television projects, including projects built around his own screen persona and franchise roles.

Johnson has received industry recognition both as an entertainer and as a public figure. Time named him to its list of the world's most influential people in 2016 and again in 2019. He has also been regularly ranked among the world's highest-paid actors, reflecting his combination of acting fees, producing work, endorsements, and business ventures. His public profile has extended beyond entertainment into sports ownership and corporate roles: he became a co-owner of the XFL, later part of the United Football League, and in 2024 joined the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE and UFC.

Johnson's career has been marked by an unusual shift from third-generation professional wrestler to global film star. His wrestling persona supplied the charisma and audience connection that shaped his early fame, while his film and television work broadened that persona into mainstream entertainment. By the mid-2020s, he remained active in acting, producing, business, and occasional professional wrestling appearances.
