Lin-Manuel Miranda

Miranda's film and television work expanded alongside his stage career. For Disney, he wrote songs for Moana, including the Oscar-nominated “How Far I'll Go,” and later contributed to Encanto, whose song “We Don't Talk About Bruno” became a major chart success. He also worked on Vivo, appeared in Mary Poppins Returns, and made his feature directing debut with Tick, Tick... Boom!, a film adaptation of Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical. His television appearances include The Electric Company, His Dark Materials, Saturday Night Live, Curb Your Enthusiasm and the filmed stage version of Hamilton.

Miranda is also known for public advocacy connected to Puerto Rico. He has supported debt relief, disaster recovery and cultural fundraising efforts, particularly after Hurricane Maria in 2017. That advocacy is intertwined with his public identity: he often presents art, celebrity and civic engagement as mutually reinforcing rather than separate careers.

By the mid-2020s Miranda had accumulated a rare combination of honors, including Tony, Grammy, Emmy, Pulitzer and Olivier awards, along with Academy Award nominations. His importance lies not only in individual trophies but in the way he expanded the sound and perceived audience of mainstream American musical theater. In the Heights gave Broadway a vibrant contemporary Latino neighborhood musical; Hamilton turned a founding-era political biography into a mass-cultural event; and his Disney work brought his rhythmic and melodic style to global family audiences.
