Halle Berry

During the 2000s Berry balanced prestige recognition with blockbuster visibility. She played Storm in the X-Men film series, Jinx opposite Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond film Die Another Day, and led or co-led films including Gothika, Catwoman, Perfect Stranger, Things We Lost in the Fire, and Frankie & Alice. Some projects drew mixed or poor reviews, but Berry remained one of the most recognizable actresses of her generation, moving between action, thriller, fantasy, and drama.

In later work, Berry expanded her role behind the camera. She starred in and produced the CBS science-fiction series Extant, appeared in action films such as Kingsman: The Golden Circle and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and made her feature directorial debut with Bruised, a sports drama in which she also starred as an MMA fighter attempting a comeback. She has continued to headline thrillers and survival stories, including Kidnap, The Call, Moonfall, and Never Let Go.

Berry’s career is marked by both breakthrough achievements and a willingness to work across commercial formats. She is historically significant because of her Oscar win, but her long filmography also shows a performer who has repeatedly taken physically demanding roles, produced vehicles for herself, and navigated the limited and often contradictory expectations placed on Black actresses in Hollywood.
