Danny DeVito

As a producer, DeVito co-founded Jersey Films, a company associated with some of the most notable American films of the 1990s and early 2000s. Jersey Films helped produce Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Gattaca, Erin Brockovich, Garden State, and other projects, giving DeVito an important off-screen role in independent and studio-adjacent cinema. His own acting during the same period included L.A. Confidential, Mars Attacks!, The Rainmaker, Man on the Moon, Big Fish, and voice work as Phil in Disney's Hercules.

A later generation knows DeVito especially as Frank Reynolds on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a role he joined in the show's second season. Frank allowed him to push an anarchic, grotesque comic persona even further, and the series' long run gave him renewed cultural visibility. He has continued to mix live action, animation, stage work, and producing, with roles in The Lorax, Dumbo, Jumanji: The Next Level, Haunted Mansion, and other projects. DeVito's durability comes from more than eccentricity: he can make characters repellent, vulnerable, absurd, and oddly lovable in the same performance, while his directing and producing work reveal a lasting interest in unruly stories outside polished Hollywood normality.
