Dennis Quaid

The 2000s and 2010s kept Quaid visible in a wide range of commercial and dramatic work. He played baseball pitcher Jim Morris in Disney's The Rookie, appeared in Traffic, The Day After Tomorrow, Flight of the Phoenix, In Good Company, Vantage Point, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Footloose, and A Dog's Purpose. He also played real and fictional authority figures with increasing frequency, including U.S. President Bill Clinton in HBO's The Special Relationship, a role that earned Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. On television he starred in Vegas, The Art of More, Fortitude, Goliath, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and the documentary-style History Channel series Holy Marvels with Dennis Quaid.

Later in his career, Quaid continued taking roles that alternated between nostalgic Americana, genre entertainment, and sharp supporting turns. He portrayed Ronald Reagan in the 2024 biopic Reagan and appeared in Coralie Fargeat's body-horror satire The Substance as a grotesque television executive. These late-career roles reflected the same elasticity that had marked earlier decades: Quaid could be used as a rugged hero, charming rogue, flawed patriarch, political figure, comic presence, or morally compromised industry man.

Quaid is part of a well-known acting family. His older brother Randy Quaid is also an actor, and his son Jack Quaid became known for roles in The Boys, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and film work. Dennis Quaid's own public image has included music as well as acting; he has performed with his band Dennis Quaid and the Sharks.
