Acting
Rachel McAdams is a Canadian actress whose career has moved comfortably between sharp studio comedies, romantic dramas, prestige ensemble films, genre work and stage performance. Born in London, Ontario, and raised in St. Thomas, she studied theatre at York University, graduating with a BFA before moving into Canadian television and film work in the early 2000s. Competitive figure skating had been part of her childhood, but acting became the centre of her professional life after university.
McAdams' first major wave of international attention came in 2004, when she played Regina George in Mean Girls and Allie Hamilton in The Notebook. The contrast between those two roles quickly became part of her screen identity: she could play satirical cruelty with comic precision, then shift into emotionally direct romantic drama without seeming confined by either lane. The following year, Wedding Crashers, Red Eye and The Family Stone broadened her profile further and made her one of the most visible young actors in Hollywood.
After stepping back from the publicity cycle for a period, McAdams returned with a run of varied roles. She appeared in State of Play, The Time Traveler's Wife, Sherlock Holmes and its sequel, Morning Glory, Midnight in Paris, The Vow and About Time. These films placed her opposite directors and co-stars across several registers, from studio mystery-adventure to Woody Allen ensemble comedy and time-bending romance. Her performances often emphasize intelligence and warmth without flattening her characters into simple romantic leads.

A major awards breakthrough came with Spotlight, in which McAdams portrayed Boston Globe reporter Sacha Pfeiffer as part of the investigative team that exposed clerical sexual abuse in Boston. The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and McAdams received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She later joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dr. Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while continuing to take character-driven roles in Disobedience, Game Night, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.
McAdams has also worked in television and theatre. She starred in the second season of True Detective and made her Broadway debut in Amy Herzog's Mary Jane, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Play. That stage recognition underlined the theatrical training behind a film career that is often discussed in terms of screen chemistry and genre versatility. By the mid-2020s, McAdams had built a filmography notable for commercial durability, awards recognition and a continued willingness to move between mainstream entertainment and intimate dramatic material.
