Kristen Wiig

Kristen Wiig is an American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose career moved from improvisational comedy to one of the most successful screen comedy runs of the 2000s and 2010s. Born Kristen Carroll Wiig on August 22, 1973, in Canandaigua, New York, she grew up partly in the Rochester area and later became involved in performance after moving toward art and comedy. Her early professional development included work with the Los Angeles improv and sketch company The Groundlings, a training ground that has supplied many performers to American television comedy.

Wiig joined Saturday Night Live in 2005 and became one of the show's defining cast members of the late 2000s. Her SNL work drew on detailed character construction, awkward social rhythms and a willingness to let jokes build from discomfort rather than simple punch lines.
