Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson is an actor from Ballymena, Northern Ireland, whose career has moved from theatre and prestige drama to global action stardom. Born in 1952, he boxed as a young man, studied at Queen's University Belfast for a time, and worked in several jobs before acting became his profession. He joined Belfast's Lyric Players' Theatre in the 1970s and later worked with Dublin's Abbey Theatre, building a stage foundation that gave his screen performances a distinctive gravity, physical stillness, and vocal authority. Early film roles included Excalibur, The Bounty, The Mission, and Suspect, gradually bringing him to international attention.

Neeson's breakthrough as a major dramatic actor came with Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, in which he played Oskar Schindler, the German industrialist who saved more than a thousand Jews during the Holocaust. The performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and remains one of the central roles of his career. In the 1990s he followed with diverse leading parts, including Rob Roy, Michael Collins, Les Misérables, The Haunting, and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, where he played Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn. These films established him as a performer who could carry historical drama, literary adaptation, fantasy, and blockbuster spectacle.

The 2000s brought another transformation. Neeson appeared in ensemble and supporting roles in films such as Gangs of New York, Love Actually, Kingdom of Heaven, Batman Begins, and The Chronicles of Narnia series, where he voiced Aslan. Then Taken, released in 2008, unexpectedly reshaped his career. As Bryan Mills, a former operative trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter, Neeson became the center of a new wave of lean, mid-budget action thrillers. The film's success led to sequels and to a run of action vehicles including Unknown, The Grey, Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Commuter, Cold Pursuit, The Marksman, Blacklight, Memory, Retribution, and The Ice Road.
