Jonah Hill

Hill's dramatic credibility rose sharply with Moneyball. As Peter Brand, a quiet analytics-minded assistant to Brad Pitt's Billy Beane, he gave a restrained performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He received a second nomination for Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, playing Donnie Azoff with a mix of grotesque comedy and moral vacancy. Those nominations shifted the way audiences and casting directors saw him: he was no longer only a comic performer, but an actor capable of calibrating tone inside ambitious films by major directors.

His voice work includes Snotlout in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Tighten in Megamind and Green Lantern in The Lego Movie films. On television, he starred opposite Emma Stone in Maniac, a stylized Netflix limited series directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. Hill also expanded as a filmmaker. His directorial debut, Mid90s, was a coming-of-age film shaped by skate culture, Los Angeles memory and a deliberately modest visual style. In Stutz, he turned the camera toward his therapist Phil Stutz and toward his own relationship to anxiety, fame and self-examination.

Hill's career has been marked by reinvention without entirely abandoning comedy. He has written or produced projects that draw on friendship, embarrassment, masculinity and performance itself. Whether playing a teenage outsider, a Wall Street enabler, a sports analyst, an animated braggart or a fictionalized version of himself, he tends to locate the vulnerability beneath social performance. That tension has made him one of the more adaptable American screen figures to emerge from 2000s comedy.
