Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer known for an affable screen presence that works equally well in romantic comedy, ensemble farce, independent drama, and superhero spectacle. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, and raised in Kansas, he studied theatre at the University of Kansas and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before establishing himself on television and film in the early 1990s. His breakout film role came as Josh in Clueless, Amy Heckerling's 1995 update of Jane Austen's Emma. The performance made him a recognizable romantic-comedy lead and introduced the relaxed, self-deprecating quality that would become central to his appeal.

Rudd built a varied career in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He appeared in films such as Romeo + Juliet, The Object of My Affection, The Cider House Rules, Wet Hot American Summer, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. His role as Brian Fantana in Anchorman became one of several memorable turns in absurdist ensemble comedy. Around the same time, he became familiar to television audiences through a recurring role on Friends as Mike Hannigan, Phoebe Buffay's eventual husband.
