Biography
Aoi Yuuki, also romanized as Aoi Yūki, is a Japanese voice actress, actress, and singer known for a large body of work in anime, games, and music. She was born Aoi Yabusaki on March 27, 1992, in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, and is represented by Aoni Production. Her career began in childhood, and she later became one of the most prominent Japanese voice performers of her generation.
Yuuki entered the entertainment industry at the age of four, initially appearing as a child performer in television and other acting work. From the late 1990s into the early 2000s she appeared regularly on Fuji TV variety programs, and she made her voice-acting debut while still in elementary school. After working under her birth name, she adopted the stage name Aoi Yuuki while moving through agencies including Breath and Pro-Fit. She later joined Aoni Production.
Her first major anime role came in 2008 as Murasaki Kuhōin in Kure-nai. In 2009 she starred in Anyamaru Tantei Kiruminzuu as Riko Mikogami and Yumeiro Patissiere as Ichigo Amano, leading roles that helped establish her as a young voice actor able to carry series centered on energetic or emotionally expressive heroines. She also voiced Iris in Pokémon: Best Wishes! and Victorique de Blois in Gosick, further expanding her visibility among anime audiences.
Yuuki's breakthrough role came in 2011 as Madoka Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The series became a major work in modern anime, and Yuuki's performance as Madoka was central to its mix of innocence, anxiety, and moral resolve. She won best voice-actor recognition at the Newtype x Machi Asobi Anime Awards and received the Best Lead Actress Award at the sixth Seiyu Awards. Those honors marked her transition from rising performer to widely recognized lead voice actress.
