Biography
Patrick Wilson is an American actor, singer, producer, and director whose career has bridged Broadway musicals, prestige television, studio drama, superhero films, and modern horror franchises. Born Patrick Joseph Wilson on July 3, 1973, in Norfolk, Virginia, he grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and trained at Carnegie Mellon University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama. His early background as a stage singer and actor gave him a classical, technically controlled presence that later translated into both musical theater and film.
Wilson first built his reputation on stage. After touring work in Miss Saigon and Carousel, he broke through on Broadway in The Full Monty, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He received another Tony nomination for playing Curly in the 2002 Broadway revival of Oklahoma!, establishing him as one of the period's prominent leading men in musical theater. That stage foundation remained visible in later screen roles: Wilson often projects restraint, physical composure, and vocal precision even when playing characters under severe psychological stress.
Television brought Wilson early prestige recognition. In HBO's Angels in America, directed by Mike Nichols from Tony Kushner's play, he played Joe Pitt, a closeted Mormon lawyer whose personal and political conflicts are central to the story. The performance earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and introduced Wilson to audiences beyond theater. He later starred in A Gifted Man and received another Golden Globe nomination for playing Lou Solverson in the second season of Fargo, a role that emphasized quiet decency, fatigue, and moral steadiness.
