Kevin Michael Richardson is an American actor and voice actor best known for his deep voice and extensive work in animation, video games, and genre television. He was born on 25 October 1964 in New York City to Jamaican immigrant parents and grew up as the youngest of five siblings. He studied theatre at Syracuse University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1988, and began his professional career with commercial and live-action work before becoming one of the most frequently heard voice performers in American animation.
Richardson's early voice roles in the 1990s included work on The Mask: Animated Series and the voice of Goro in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat. His basso voice made him especially suited to villains, monsters, authority figures, and comic heavies, but his career has also included warm, comic, and heroic characters. He went on to play Captain Gantu in Lilo & Stitch and related productions, Tartarus in Halo 2, Jolee Bindo in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Chairman Drek in Ratchet & Clank, and numerous roles across superhero, fantasy, and children's series.
A major part of Richardson's career has been in television animation. He voiced the Joker in The Batman, becoming the first Black actor to play the character in a major screen adaptation, and received Daytime Emmy Award nominations for the performance. He also voiced Trigon and other characters in Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!, Antauri in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, the Shredder in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Bulkhead in Transformers: Prime, and Mr. Gus in Uncle Grandpa.
