Laura Linney

Laura Linney is an American actor known for precise, emotionally grounded performances across film, television and theatre. Born Laura Leggett Linney in New York City, she is the daughter of playwright Romulus Linney and studied at Brown University before further training at the Juilliard School. Her early career included stage work and supporting film roles, and she made her Broadway debut in the early 1990s. That theatre background remained central to her screen identity: even in large studio films, Linney’s performances often emphasize close observation, controlled shifts in tone and an ability to suggest a character’s inner life without overstatement.

Linney’s film career developed through roles in Congo, Primal Fear, Absolute Power and The Truman Show. In The Truman Show she played Meryl Burbank, a wife who is also a performer inside the film’s artificial television world; the role introduced her to a broad audience and matched her skill at playing sincerity and performance at the same time.
