Minami Takayama is a Japanese voice actress, narrator and singer best known for one of the most recognizable voices in modern anime: Conan Edogawa in Detective Conan, also released internationally as Case Closed. Born Izumi Arai on May 5, 1964, in Tokyo, she became affiliated with 81 Produce and developed a career that bridges anime, feature animation, video games, narration and pop music. Her voice is especially associated with young male protagonists, sharp comic timing and characters whose energy masks intelligence or emotional weight.
Takayama's early path included stage and voice training before her professional anime career began in the late 1980s. One of her defining early breakthroughs was Hayao Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service, in which she voiced both Kiki and Ursula in the original Japanese version. The dual casting showed her range at an early point: Kiki required youthful uncertainty and warmth, while Ursula called for a more relaxed, older confidence. Around the same period she became known for Nabiki Tendo in Ranma 1/2 and for leading roles in Mister Ajikko, Moomin and Yaiba.
Her career became inseparable from Detective Conan after the series began in 1996. As Conan Edogawa, Takayama supplied the voice of a brilliant high-school detective trapped in a child's body, a premise that demands both adult intelligence and childlike presentation. She has carried the role through decades of television episodes, theatrical films, specials and cross-media appearances, making her voice a central part of one of Japan's most durable mystery franchises. Her long-running work as Rantarō Inadera in Nintama Rantarō further cemented her status as a voice actor whose performances could become generational touchstones.

Outside those signature roles, Takayama has voiced Envy in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hao Asakura in Shaman King, Hajime Hinata and Izuru Kamukura in the Danganronpa franchise, and characters in video games including Kid Icarus: Uprising and Honkai Impact 3rd. She is also a singer and was the main vocalist of the pop duo Two-Mix, a group closely associated with anime music, including Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. Recognition such as the Synergy Award at the Seiyu Awards reflects the unusually broad reach of her work: she is not only a prolific performer, but a voice whose sound is tied to long-running characters, theme songs and the international spread of Japanese animation.
