Rob Schneider is an American actor, comedian, screenwriter, director, and stand-up performer. He was born Robert Michael Schneider on 31 October 1963 in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Pacifica. Before becoming widely known on television, he developed as a stand-up comedian in the San Francisco Bay Area and appeared on HBO's 13th Annual Young Comedians special in 1987.
Schneider joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 1988 and became a featured performer and repertory cast member from 1990 to 1994. On the program he was associated with recurring characters and sketches including the Richmeister, an office worker who delivered rapid-fire nicknames at a photocopier. His SNL period placed him among a generation of performers that included Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, and David Spade, and it brought him three Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
After leaving Saturday Night Live, Schneider moved steadily into film comedy. He played supporting parts in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Demolition Man, The Beverly Hillbillies, Judge Dredd, Down Periscope, and Big Daddy, and became especially associated with comedies connected to Sandler and Happy Madison productions. His best-known starring role is Deuce Bigalow in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, followed by Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. He also starred in The Animal, The Hot Chick, The Benchwarmers, Big Stan, The Chosen One, and Daddy Daughter Trip, and appeared in ensemble comedies including 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, Grown Ups, You Don't Mess with the Zohan, The Ridiculous 6, The Wrong Missy, Hubie Halloween, and Home Team.

Schneider has also worked in television, voice acting, and stand-up specials. His television projects include Men Behaving Badly, the sitcom Rob, and Real Rob, a semi-autobiographical comedy series in which members of his family appeared. As a voice performer, he has contributed to animated features and series including Eight Crazy Nights, Shark Bait, Norm of the North, and Leo. He has continued to tour as a stand-up comedian and has released comedy specials including Rob Schneider: Asian Momma, Mexican Kids.
Schneider's career has been built around broad physical comedy, character roles, and recurring collaborations with other American comedy performers. His films have often drawn mixed or negative critical responses, but several became popular with audiences and helped define a strain of late-1990s and 2000s mainstream studio comedy. He is also known as the father of singer and actor Elle King.
