During the 2000s she also expanded her role behind the camera. Bullock founded Fortis Films and produced several projects, including Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and All About Steve. She served as an executive producer on the sitcom George Lopez, helping bring the series to television and making guest appearances on it. That producer role became part of her public identity: she was not only a bankable actor but also a figure with influence over the kinds of mainstream comedy and character-driven entertainment that reached large audiences.

A major awards peak came with The Blind Side in 2009. Bullock's portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy won the Academy Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. The same period also included The Proposal, a commercially successful romantic comedy opposite Ryan Reynolds, showing the unusual breadth of her appeal in a single year. She followed that phase with one of her most acclaimed performances, playing astronaut Ryan Stone in Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity. The film was both a technical showcase and a largely internal survival drama, and Bullock received another Academy Award nomination for a role carried by fear, grief, endurance, and isolation.

Bullock continued to choose a mix of ensemble, comedy, thriller, and streaming-era work. Her later credits include The Heat with Melissa McCarthy, Our Brand Is Crisis, Ocean's 8, Bird Box, The Unforgivable, and The Lost City. Bird Box became one of Netflix's most visible original-film successes, while The Lost City returned her to adventure comedy opposite Channing Tatum. These choices underlined how she remained adaptable as distribution and audience habits changed.

Bullock's public reputation has often emphasized charm and relatability, but her durability comes from a more specific skill set: she grounds high-concept stories in recognizable human reactions. Whether in a runaway bus, a space capsule, a beauty pageant, a romantic misunderstanding, or a post-apocalyptic thriller, she tends to locate the ordinary person inside the spectacle. That ability has made her one of the defining American screen stars of her generation, equally associated with comedy, drama, action, and producer-driven mainstream entertainment.
