Peter Dinklage

His most famous role is Tyrion Lannister in HBO's Game of Thrones, which ran from 2011 to 2019. Tyrion began as an underestimated aristocrat armed with language more than power and developed into one of the series' central political and emotional figures. Dinklage's performance brought humor, bitterness, intelligence, and grief to a role that could easily have become only a fan-favorite schemer. He won four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the part, a record total in that category for a single role, and also received a Golden Globe.

Dinklage has remained active on stage. He performed Shakespeare, appeared in classical and contemporary theater, and played Cyrano de Bergerac in a musical adaptation written by Erica Schmidt, his wife. That stage work later informed the film Cyrano, in which he reimagined the famous romantic hero without relying on the traditional large-nose conceit. The project reflected a larger pattern in his career: challenging inherited assumptions about what bodies, voices, and romantic leads are supposed to look like.

Beyond awards, Dinklage's importance lies in how he widened expectations. He did not become prominent by asking audiences to ignore difference; he became prominent by insisting that difference was only one part of a complete human character. His best performances are alert to humiliation, pride, loneliness, desire, and calculation, and they often turn a sharp line reading into a full emotional history.
