Alan Menken

Alan Menken is an American composer, songwriter, pianist, and producer, born in New Rochelle, New York. He is best known for his long association with Disney stage and screen musicals, where his melodies helped define the studio's late twentieth-century animated era. His film work includes original music for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, Enchanted, Tangled, and Disenchanted, as well as songs for the live-action Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. Menken also wrote for Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies, works that moved between stage and screen. His awards record includes multiple Academy Awards, Grammys, Golden Globes, a Tony, and an Emmy, making him one of the artists who has achieved EGOT status. In addition to composing, he appears as himself in documentaries and concert films about Disney music and musical theatre, including Howard and An Evening with Alan Menken.
