Chris Pine

Christopher Whitelaw Pine (born August 26, 1980) is an American actor known for leading roles in studio franchises, character-driven dramas, comedies, and stage productions. Born in Los Angeles, he comes from a family with long ties to film and television: his father, Robert Pine, is an actor, his mother, Gwynne Gilford, is a former actress, and his maternal grandmother, Anne Gwynne, was a Hollywood performer. Pine studied English at the University of California, Berkeley, where he became involved in theater, and he also spent time studying in the United Kingdom before returning to acting work in the United States. His early training included stage experience at university and through professional theater programs, helping shape a career that has often moved between screen acting and live performance.

Pine began appearing on television in the early 2000s, with early credits including ER, The Guardian, CSI: Miami, and Six Feet Under. His first wide film breakthrough came as Nicholas Devereaux opposite Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, a role that introduced him to mainstream audiences as a romantic lead. He followed it with parts in Just My Luck, Blind Dating, Smokin' Aces, and Bottle Shock, while also continuing to work in theater. His best-known role arrived when he was cast as James T. Kirk in J. J. Abrams's Star Trek, the 2009 reboot of the long-running science-fiction franchise. Pine's version of Kirk helped establish the new cast and made him internationally recognizable. He reprised the role in Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond, anchoring the Kelvin-timeline films with a mixture of swagger, impatience, humor, and gradually earned authority.
