Biography
George Clooney is an American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter whose career has balanced television stardom, movie-star charisma, political drama, comedy, and behind-the-camera authorship. Born George Timothy Clooney in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 6, 1961, he grew up in a show-business family: his father Nick Clooney worked in broadcasting, and his aunt Rosemary Clooney was a celebrated singer and actor. After years of guest roles and short-lived television series, Clooney became widely known as Dr. Doug Ross on ER, the medical drama that made him one of the defining television stars of the 1990s.
Clooney used that visibility to build a film career that avoided a single fixed type. From Dusk Till Dawn and Out of Sight helped establish him as a relaxed, sharp-edged screen presence, while Three Kings, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Perfect Storm, and Solaris showed an appetite for directors with distinctive sensibilities. Ocean's Eleven and its sequels made Danny Ocean one of his signature roles and anchored his image as a modern ensemble leading man.
His best dramatic performances often turn on charm under pressure. In Syriana he played a weary CIA officer and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Michael Clayton cast him as a legal fixer confronting corporate corruption and earned him a Best Actor nomination. Up in the Air, The Descendants, and The Ides of March continued his run of roles about professional confidence, moral compromise, and private loneliness. Clooney has also done notable voice work, including the title role in Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox.
