Stephen Fry

Sir Stephen John Fry is an English actor, comedian, writer, broadcaster, narrator, and public intellectual whose career has crossed comedy, literature, documentary television, theatre, film, radio, and audiobooks. Born in Hampstead, London, in 1957 and educated at Cambridge, he first came to prominence in the early 1980s through university comedy circles and the television sketch series Alfresco. His partnership with Hugh Laurie became one of the defining British comedy collaborations of the period.

Fry and Laurie reached a wide audience through A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster. In the former, Fry's verbal fluency, mock-grand authority, and absurdist intelligence were paired with Laurie's musical and physical comic style. In Jeeves and Wooster, Fry played P. G. Wodehouse's unflappable valet Jeeves opposite Laurie's Bertie Wooster, turning a literary comic duo into a warmly remembered television pairing. Fry also appeared in Blackadder, contributing to one of Britain's most influential sitcom traditions.

His film career has combined acting, narration, and occasional writing. Fry appeared in Chariots of Fire, A Fish Called Wanda, Gosford Park, V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Love & Friendship, and many other productions. One of his most significant screen roles was Oscar Wilde in the 1997 film Wilde, a performance that drew on Fry's affinity for language, wit, melancholy, and public contradiction. He has also provided voice work in animation and fantasy films, including the Cheshire Cat in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland films, and has narrated documentaries and nature programming.
