Chloë Grace Moretz is an American actress whose career began in childhood and developed across horror, comedy, action, animation, independent drama, and streaming television. Born February 10, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia, she started acting at a young age and quickly became one of the most recognizable child and teen performers of the late 2000s and early 2010s. Her early screen work included The Amityville Horror, Desperate Housewives, The Eye, The Poker House, 500 Days of Summer, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Moretz's breakthrough came with Kick-Ass, in which she played Mindy Macready, also known as Hit-Girl. The role was controversial and memorable because it placed a young performer inside extremely stylized comic violence, but Moretz's performance was also disciplined, funny, and physically assured. She reprised the role in Kick-Ass 2, and the character remains one of the defining images of her early career. Around the same period she appeared in Let Me In, the American adaptation of Let the Right One In, showing a darker and more restrained side of her child-actor range.
She moved through a notably wide set of studio and auteur projects. Martin Scorsese cast her as Isabelle in Hugo, Tim Burton used her in Dark Shadows, and Kimberly Peirce cast her as Carrie White in the 2013 remake of Carrie. Moretz also appeared in The Equalizer, If I Stay, Dark Places, The 5th Wave, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Greta, and Tom & Jerry. Those films varied in reception, but they show how often she was asked to anchor genre material, either as the emotional center of a young-adult story or as the performer whose presence made a thriller or fantasy premise legible.

Independent cinema gave Moretz some of her strongest later showcases. In Clouds of Sils Maria she played a young celebrity whose image unsettles older artists around her. In The Miseducation of Cameron Post she played a teenager sent to a gay conversion-therapy program; the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and became one of her most respected dramatic roles. She also starred in Mother/Android and Shadow in the Cloud, continuing her interest in genre pieces centered on young women under extreme pressure.
Voice work has become another important strand of her career. Moretz voiced Wednesday Addams in the animated Addams Family films and voiced the title character in Nimona, an animated fantasy about identity, fear, and chosen loyalty. On television, she led the science-fiction series The Peripheral, based on William Gibson's novel, playing Flynne Fisher in a story that mixed economic anxiety, virtual worlds, and time-bending conspiracy.
Moretz's public career is unusual because audiences watched her grow from child actor to adult performer while she moved among very different types of material. Her best roles often use that history: she can project toughness, skepticism, youth, and vulnerability at the same time. Whether in Kick-Ass, Let Me In, Hugo, The Miseducation of Cameron Post, The Peripheral, or Nimona, she has remained associated with characters who are underestimated until they reveal emotional or physical force.
