Rosario Dawson

Rosario Isabel Dawson is an American actress, voice performer, producer, writer, and activist whose screen career began while she was still a teenager and grew into a long run across independent film, studio features, comic-book adaptations, animation, streaming television, and documentary work. Born in New York City on May 9, 1979, Dawson was cast in Larry Clark and Harmony Korine's Kids after being discovered as a teenager. The 1995 film was controversial, but it immediately placed Dawson in the public eye and led to steady work in independent and mainstream projects.

After Kids, Dawson built a broad film résumé rather than staying in one genre. She appeared in Spike Lee's He Got Game, the music-industry satire Josie and the Pussycats, Spike Lee's 25th Hour, Men in Black II, The Rundown, and Oliver Stone's Alexander. In 2005 she had two especially visible roles: Mimi Marquez in the film adaptation of Rent and Gail in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City. Those parts showed two recurring strands in her career: musical and dramatic work on one side, and heightened comic-book or genre material on the other. She later returned as Gail in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and continued to appear in films such as Death Proof, Seven Pounds, Unstoppable, Trance, Top Five, Zombieland: Double Tap, Clerks III, and Haunted Mansion.

Dawson's career has been closely tied to comic-book and franchise storytelling. In Marvel television she played Claire Temple, first in Daredevil and then across Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. The role made her one of the connective figures of the Marvel Netflix era. She also became a regular voice presence in DC animation, including work as Wonder Woman in multiple animated films and related projects, and voiced Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie. In Star Wars, Dawson took on the live-action role of Ahsoka Tano, first appearing in The Mandalorian before reprising the character in The Book of Boba Fett and starring in Ahsoka. That role introduced her to another generation of genre audiences while connecting her work to one of modern television's largest franchises.
