Biography

Louis Koo Tin-lok is a Hong Kong actor, producer, and entertainment entrepreneur who moved from television stardom into one of the most durable film careers in modern Hong Kong cinema. Born in British Hong Kong on October 21, 1970, Koo first became widely known through TVB drama series in the 1990s before shifting his focus toward film after the early 2000s. Public profiles identify him as an actor, model, singer, and film producer, but his central importance has been as a screen performer and industry figure in Hong Kong's post-handover film landscape.

Koo's early fame came through television. The Condor Heroes 95 made him a popular leading man, and he later won TVB Anniversary Awards for Detective Investigation Files IV and A Step into the Past. These dramas gave him a broad audience before he became identified primarily with cinema. His television work also made him part of a generation of Hong Kong performers whose careers bridged local broadcast celebrity and transnational Chinese-language film markets.

In film, Koo developed a more varied and often darker image. He became a frequent collaborator of director Johnnie To and appeared in works such as Throw Down, Election 2, Romancing in Thin Air, and Drug War. He also worked across action thrillers, crime dramas, comedies, and melodramas, including Protégé, Run Papa Run, Connected, Overheard, The White Storm, SPL II: A Time for Consequences, Paradox, A Witness Out of the Blue, and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In. His performances often use a cool, contained screen presence that can fit police officers, criminals, fathers, romantic leads, and morally ambiguous professionals.
