Takehito Koyasu is a Japanese voice actor from Kanagawa Prefecture whose career has run from the late 1980s into the present. Born on May 5, 1967, in Yokohama, he became known for an unusually large range of anime, game, drama CD, and dubbing work, often playing elegant rivals, comic eccentrics, villains, mentors, and charismatic supporting characters. He is also closely associated with T's Factory, the voice-acting agency he founded and represents, making him not only a performer but also an industry figure with his own professional base.
Koyasu has said that film and screen acting shaped his early interest in performance. According to biographical accounts, a scene from Adieu Galaxy Express 999 helped push him toward voice acting, and he developed a personal aim of making two-dimensional characters feel three-dimensional. He trained after high school and entered the industry with small roles before becoming a regular performer. His early credits include Wowser, Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato, and later Tekkaman Blade, where his work as Shinya Aiba/Tekkaman Evil became one of the parts he has often been linked with in career summaries.
During the 1990s Koyasu became a familiar voice across major television anime. His roles included Snufkin in the Moomin franchise, Gamlin Kizaki in Macross 7, Hotohori in Fushigi Yugi, Zechs Merquise/Milliardo Peacecraft in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Shigeru Aoba in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Touga Kiryuu in Revolutionary Girl Utena, Ryosuke Takahashi in Initial D, and Ran Fujimiya in Weiß Kreuz. The Weiß Kreuz project was especially important because Koyasu was involved conceptually and also performed in the associated male voice-actor unit, connecting his acting career with music and character-media promotion at a time when seiyu culture was becoming more visible.

His later work kept him prominent with both new anime audiences and long-running franchises. He has been credited in series and films such as One Piece, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Gintama, Attack on Titan, Violet Evergarden, Baki, SK8 the Infinity, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Uncle from Another World. In games, his extensive credits include roles in franchises such as Fire Emblem, Persona, Tales, and many anime-linked titles. His career is marked less by one single signature role than by the accumulation of instantly recognizable performances across genres.
Koyasu's voice often carries a theatrical smoothness: refined, amused, sinister, or flamboyant depending on the character. That quality has made him a frequent choice for antagonists and morally ambiguous figures, but he has also handled deadpan comedy and sincere dramatic roles. He has also taken over some characters previously performed by Kaneto Shiozawa, placing him within a line of Japanese voice acting noted for elegant, sharp-edged male performances.
In 2021 he won Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 15th Seiyu Awards, formal recognition for a career that had already made him one of the most prolific and widely recognized male voice actors in Japan. His son Kōki Koyasu also became a voice actor, and the two appeared together publicly in promotional work and radio. Koyasu's longevity comes from his ability to adapt to changing anime production while maintaining a distinctive personal presence. For viewers, his name in a cast list usually signals a character with force, wit, and vocal polish.
