Daisuke Yamanouchi

Daisuke Yamanouchi is a Japanese filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor associated with V-cinema, pink film, horror, science fiction, and other low-budget genre production. Born on July 4, 1972, he developed a career outside the center of mainstream studio filmmaking, working in areas of Japanese cinema where directors often move quickly between writing, directing, editing, and production problem-solving.

Yamanouchi first drew attention in the mid-1990s when his short film Blood Red Girls was entered at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival and won a Jury Prize in the Off Theater Competition. He subsequently worked as an assistant director under Keita Amemiya on Moon Over Tao: Makaraga, released in 1997. By the late 1990s he was making straight-to-video genre films, including Red Room, Girl Hell 1999, Muzan-e, and Dead a Go! Go!, titles that connected him with the more extreme side of Japanese horror and exploitation cinema.

In the 2000s, Yamanouchi became active in pink film while continuing to make V-cinema productions. His work has often crossed horror, erotic thriller, revenge narrative, science fiction, and underground genre storytelling. Beautiful Lesbian Sisters: On the Day of Mourning... placed fourth in the 2006 Pink Grand Prix best-film ranking, and his 2010 film Irokoi sata Sadako no bôken: Watashi no ai shita shôgu-tachi yo... took first place in the 2011 Pink Grand Prix ranking. He also continued to work as a screenwriter and editor, and later credits include Roundabout, the Shortest Distance Is Round and multiple direct-to-video projects.
