Tomokazu Seki

Seki is also strongly associated with major game and multimedia franchises. In the Fate franchise, he voices Gilgamesh, a character whose arrogance, charisma, and mythic grandeur require a theatrical style very different from many of Seki’s warmer roles. In Persona 4, he voices Kanji Tatsumi, a tough and insecure teenager whose story includes questions of masculinity, vulnerability, and social identity. In Psycho-Pass, he voices Shinya Kogami, one of his best-known modern roles, bringing a lower, controlled intensity to a character shaped by justice, trauma, and revenge.

Another major part of Seki’s career is long-running popular anime. He voices Rob Lucci in One Piece, contributing to one of the most internationally recognized anime franchises. He became the voice of Suneo Honekawa in the long-running Doraemon television series after the franchise’s major 2005 cast change, taking on a character deeply familiar to Japanese audiences. He has also worked in Pokémon-related projects, Yo-kai Watch, Hajime no Ippo, Nana, Nodame Cantabile, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, and many other series.

Because Japanese voice acting often crosses into stage, music, events, and radio, Seki’s career is not limited to recorded animation. His association with HeroHero Q reflects a stage-performance dimension, while his singing and character-song work connect him to the media-mix practices common in anime and game franchises. Seki’s longevity is partly due to his ability to adapt to different production models: weekly television anime, theatrical animation, game voice tracks, event performance, and franchise reprisal work all require different techniques and schedules.

Seki’s public record also includes controversy. In 2017, he apologized after an incident during an event-related radio context in which an inappropriate sexual joke or instruction involving younger voice actors was reported. A factual biography should neither ignore the incident nor sensationalize it; it is part of the public record, but it does not define the entirety of a career that spans decades of credited work.

Seki remains one of the most recognizable male voice actors of his generation. His roles connect several eras of anime fandom: 1990s fantasy and mecha, early-2000s action and romance, long-running family television, and modern global streaming-era franchises. His performances often carry a strong sense of theatricality, whether in the heroic directness of Domon Kasshu, the aristocratic menace of Gilgamesh, or the restrained seriousness of Shinya Kogami. That flexibility has made him a durable presence in Japanese voice acting for more than thirty years.
