Kenichi Ogata

Kenichi Ogata is a veteran Japanese voice actor whose long career spans television anime, theatrical animation, dubbing, games, and narration. Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1942, he belongs to the generation of performers who helped define the sound of Japanese television animation from the 1970s onward. His work is especially associated with older men, comic authority figures, fathers, inventors, mentors, and eccentric supporting characters, roles that require a flexible character voice rather than a conventional leading-man profile.

Ogata's best-known role for many international viewers is Professor Hiroshi Agasa in the Detective Conan franchise. The character, an inventor and neighbor to the young detective Conan Edogawa, has been part of the franchise's supporting structure across television episodes, films, and specials. Ogata's warm, slightly comic performance helps make Agasa both a source of gadgets and a familiar adult presence in a series built around mysteries, danger, and long-running continuity.

Before and alongside Detective Conan, Ogata built a broad resume in classic anime. He has been credited in series and films connected with Ninja Hattori-kun, Combat Mecha Xabungle, Mashin Hero Wataru, The King of Braves GaoGaiGar, Atashin'chi, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and other projects.
