Yogi Babu is an Indian actor and comedian known primarily for his work in Tamil cinema. Born on 22 July 1985, he emerged from small supporting parts to become one of the most prolific comic performers in contemporary Tamil films. His screen name is associated with his feature-film debut, Yogi, and his career has included comic supporting roles, character parts and occasional lead performances across mainstream, independent and streaming releases.
Babu was born in Tamil Nadu and grew up in a family connected to the Indian Army; public biographical accounts note that his father's service meant that he moved during childhood and spent part of his schooling years in Jammu. Before becoming widely recognized as a film actor, he worked behind the scenes on the television comedy programme Lollu Sabha, where he served as an assistant director and contributed to scene writing. That period helped connect him with the sketch-comedy and parody style that later shaped much of his film persona.
He made early appearances in films such as Yogi and Paiyaa before drawing wider notice in the early 2010s. Kalakalappu gave him a memorable supporting part, and Pattathu Yaanai provided an extended comedy role. During the same period he appeared in films including Soodhu Kavvum and the Hindi film Chennai Express. His visibility increased further with Maan Karate and Yaamirukka Bayamey in 2014, both of which helped establish him as a comic presence in commercial Tamil cinema.
By the mid-2010s Babu had become a regular supporting actor in a large number of releases. He appeared in Kaaka Muttai, Kirumi, Aandavan Kattalai, Remo, Mersal and other films, often playing distinctive comic side characters. Aandavan Kattalai was an important career point, bringing him awards recognition for his performance. In 2018 he received particular attention for Kolamavu Kokila, in which his comic-romantic track opposite Nayanthara became widely discussed, and for Pariyerum Perumal, where he played a supporting role in a critically acclaimed social drama.

Babu's workload expanded rapidly in the late 2010s and 2020s. He appeared in major star vehicles and ensemble films including Viswasam, Bigil, Darbar, Karnan, Doctor, Beast, Love Today, Varisu, Maaveeran, Jailer, The Greatest of All Time and Kanguva, while also taking lead or central roles in smaller films. His starring parts include Dharmaprabhu, Gurkha, Mandela, Bommai Nayagi, Yaanai Mugathaan, Lucky Man, Thookudurai and Boat. Mandela, a political satire in which he played a barber whose vote becomes decisive in a village election, was especially notable for presenting him in a more sustained dramatic-comic lead role.
His performances have been recognized by Tamil and South Indian film-award bodies. Public listings credit him with multiple SIIMA Awards, including comedy awards for films such as Aandavan Kattalai, Kolamavu Kokila, Comali and Love Today. He has also been associated with Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and received the Kalaimamani honour announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu for contributions to the arts. Beyond awards, his prominence rests on an unusually large filmography and an ability to move between slapstick comedy, self-deprecating cameos, supporting dramatic roles and lead performances in modestly scaled films.
Babu married Manju Bhargavi in 2020, and public biographical sources report that the couple have children. As his career has continued, he has remained active across theatrical films, television and streaming projects, with credit listings showing a steady flow of Tamil-language work and occasional appearances in other Indian film industries.
