Takeru Satoh

Takeru Satoh is a Japanese actor best known internationally for playing Himura Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin film series. Born in Saitama Prefecture in 1989, Satoh entered entertainment as a teenager and became active in the mid-2000s. His early breakthrough came through tokusatsu television: he played Ryotaro Nogami in Kamen Rider Den-O, a role that introduced him to a large youth and genre audience and gave him experience with action, comedy, transformation-hero storytelling, and serialized character work.

Satoh's move from television idol visibility to major film actor was shaped by Rurouni Kenshin. Beginning with the 2012 film, he played Kenshin Himura, a wandering former assassin trying to live by a vow not to kill. The role required a mix of physical precision, quiet remorse, and sudden explosive sword action. Satoh returned for Kyoto Inferno and The Legend Ends in 2014, then for The Final and The Beginning in 2021. The five-film cycle became one of the most successful and internationally visible Japanese live-action manga adaptations, and Satoh's performance is central to its reputation.

Outside Rurouni Kenshin, Satoh has worked across romance, drama, mystery, action, and fantasy. His film credits include The 8-Year Engagement, Ajin: Demi-Human, Inuyashiki, One Night, Samurai Marathon, Million Dollar Man, April, Come She Will, and Cells at Work! He has also appeared in television and streaming projects such as First Love, Half Blue Sky, Marry My Husband: Japan, and Glass Heart. These roles show a career that has balanced star-driven romantic material with adaptations and ensemble drama.
