Biography

Yang Mi is a Chinese actress, singer, and producer who became one of the most commercially visible figures in mainland Chinese television drama and popular entertainment. Born in Beijing on 12 September 1986, she began appearing on screen as a child and later studied at the Beijing Film Academy, an institution that has trained many major Chinese film and television performers. Her career developed across historical dramas, fantasy romance, contemporary series, film franchises, variety programs, and celebrity-brand culture.

Yang's early recognition came through television rather than film. As a young actress she appeared in projects including The Return of the Condor Heroes and then reached a larger audience with Chinese Paladin 3, where she became strongly associated with the xianxia and fantasy-drama wave that helped define late-2000s Chinese popular television. Her major breakthrough came with Palace in 2011. The time-travel palace drama was a major hit and turned Yang into a leading television star, giving her a screen image built around romance, historical settings, and highly accessible melodrama.

She followed that success with a run of prominent television and film work. In film, Yang played Lin Xiao in the Tiny Times series, Guo Jingming's glossy youth and fashion franchise adapted from his novels. The films were commercially visible and controversial in critical reception, but they reinforced Yang's popularity with young audiences. She also appeared in films such as Mysterious Island, Painted Skin: The Resurrection, The Witness, and Reset, moving between horror, fantasy, suspense, and science-fiction-inflected action.
