Mamiko Noto

Mamiko Noto is a Japanese voice actress, actress, and singer from Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. Active since the late 1990s, she became one of the most recognizable voices in Japanese animation through a performance style often described by fans and critics as soft, intimate, and emotionally restrained. Her work has covered television anime, theatrical animation, video games, drama CDs, music releases, and narration, and she has long been associated with the talent agency Office Osawa.

Noto emerged during a period when voice actors were becoming increasingly visible as performers beyond the recording booth. Her early and mid-career anime roles quickly gave her a reputation for characters who could be quiet, mysterious, gentle, eerie, or deeply wounded without losing clarity. Among the parts most often connected with her are Rin in Inuyasha, Sawako Kuronuma in Kimi ni Todoke, Ai Enma in Hell Girl, Yakumo Tsukamoto in School Rumble, Kotomi Ichinose in Clannad, and Satellizer L. Bridget in Freezing. These roles show the breadth of her casting: supernatural horror, romantic drama, comedy, school stories, fantasy, and action-oriented series.

Her role as Sawako in Kimi ni Todoke became especially important for international anime audiences. The character's shyness, sincerity, and slow social opening matched Noto's ability to suggest strong feeling through small changes in tone. Hell Girl used a different side of the same skill set, with Ai Enma's calm voice giving the series much of its unsettling atmosphere.
