Atsumi Tanezaki

Atsumi Tanezaki is a Japanese voice actress known for a wide vocal range and for several of the most prominent anime roles of the 2010s and 2020s. Born in Ōita Prefecture, Japan, on September 27, she began working professionally in the early 2010s and was formerly affiliated with Toritori Office before being represented by Haikyō, the Tokyo Actor’s Consumer’s Cooperative Society.

Tanezaki’s early anime work included roles such as Lisa Mishima in Terror in Resonance and Moe Nishinosono in The Perfect Insider. She gained further attention as Chise Hatori, the emotionally guarded protagonist of The Ancient Magus’ Bride, a role that required a quiet, vulnerable performance very different from many of her later comic or high-energy characters. She also voiced Dai in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai and Vivy in Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, adding heroic and musical science-fiction roles to her résumé.

Her international profile rose sharply with Spy × Family, in which she voices Anya Forger. Anya’s mixture of telepathic awareness, childish misunderstanding, slapstick reactions, and emotional sincerity became one of the series’ central appeals, and Tanezaki’s performance helped make the character instantly recognizable. She later voiced Frieren in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, a much more restrained role centered on memory, grief, time, and subtle emotional change. The contrast between Anya and Frieren is often cited by fans as evidence of Tanezaki’s range.

Tanezaki has also appeared in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean as Emporio Alniño, Liz and the Blue Bird as Mizore Yoroizuka, Rascal Does Not Dream projects as Rio Futaba, and Wonderful Pretty Cure! as Iroha Inukai / Cure Friendy. Her awards recognition includes Seiyu Awards honors, including Best Supporting Actress and later both lead and supporting recognition, reflecting industry acknowledgment of her work across very different types of roles.
