Rajendra Prasad, born Gadde Babu Rajendra Prasad on July 19, 1956, is an Indian actor and comedian known primarily for his work in Telugu cinema. He was born in Nimmakuru, in present-day Andhra Pradesh, and trained in acting after an early interest in films led him away from a technical career path. Over a career that began in the late 1970s, he became one of Telugu cinema's most familiar comic leading men and character actors.
Prasad made his screen debut with Sneham in 1977 and worked in supporting roles and dubbing before becoming established as a lead actor. His breakthrough came during the 1980s with comic and family entertainers, including Ladies Tailor and Aha Naa Pellanta!, films that helped define his public image as a performer with strong timing and an accessible middle-class persona. During this period he also appeared in Rendu Rellu Aaru, Appula Appa Rao, Mayalodu, and other popular Telugu films.
Although widely associated with comedy, Prasad also earned recognition for dramatic performances. He won Nandi Awards for films including Erra Mandaram and Aa Naluguru, the latter becoming one of his best-known serious roles. His later work expanded into senior supporting parts, father roles, and character roles in mainstream Telugu films such as Julayi, S/O Satyamurthy, Srimanthudu, Nannaku Prematho, F2: Fun and Frustration, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Gaali Sampath, and Senapathi. He also appeared in Quick Gun Murugun, an English-language Indian comedy that brought his screen persona to a wider festival and crossover audience.

Prasad has received multiple state and industry honors, including Nandi Awards, SIIMA Awards, and Santosham Film Awards. In 2026 he was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema. His long career reflects the importance of comic actors in Telugu popular film: he moved from leading comedy roles to respected character work while remaining closely associated with everyday humor, emotional warmth, and the family-film tradition.
